Re: Supervisory Leadership Program: Invitation and Welcome!

Welcome to what I believe will be an incredible, fun, and rewarding learning journey as we all, working together, learn and hone our “people” skills, “relationship” building, and learn together how to be positive, effective, and authentic leaders.

As we kick off this new program through Business Training Experts (BTE) called The Leadership Journey, you will be one of nearly 200 ABC employees who will be working and learning their way through this program that will span the next six months.

Some of you are already in supervisory positions, and others of you have been identified as potential emerging leaders within your division. Either way, this program focuses on leadership. True leadership is not about position or job title; it is about the influence each of us has to impact the people and working environments that surround each of us every day, both at work and in our personal lives.

I have attached a number of additional pieces of information to this invitation about The Leadership Journey program and how it will work. As you are receiving this material, you will also be given a date and time for a conference call between all of the participants within your Division and myself to briefly review this information, talk about the program in general, and answer any questions you may have about the program and your participation going forward.

Hopefully, you will be able to participate in this call. If not, your supervisor or GM will go through the material with you. You may also be given other dates and times when you could join a conference call with one of our other Divisions as this program is introduced throughout ABC.

As a participant in this program myself, we will be learning and exploring the world of leadership together. I am excited about this program and believe it will be a personal, as well as a professional, enriching experience. As with most things, the more we as individuals invest and embrace the experience; the more powerful it can become for us. Enjoy!!

Example #2

A personalized email invitation coming from the student’s manager. (Human Resources created a template that they provided to each manager who had team members participating.) They were implementing The Leadership Journey in a blended approach. Students would complete an e-learning course prior to a group training session. They scheduled training biweekly on a quarterly basis.

Good Morning, Rick!

Next Wednesday, you are scheduled to begin a new leadership development program. The purpose of my note today is to congratulate you on being chosen for this opportunity, and share some detail about pre-work and what you can expect during the first meeting.

The Leadership Journey – North Star Series program is scheduled to meet biweekly for the next three months. Every other week one leadership topic will be discussed. Dates and topics are outlined on the attached “Fact Sheet.”

Prior to the weekly discussions, it will be important for you to complete some pre-work. The pre-work is taking an e-learning course. It entails watching a video, answering some questions, and completing a personal action plan. It is completed online.

In order to access the e-learning, you will need to login to our vendor’s learning management system. Directions for all the setup are given in the attachment titled “LJ Participant Instructions”. I encourage you to login a few days prior to Wednesday. That way, if you run into a snag and need help, Roger and I will have some opportunity to get things straightened out before our group session.

Wednesday’s discussion topic is – First Things First: Building Key Leadership Skills. Please complete the e-learning course prior to Wednesday. Bring a copy of your completed Participant Guide to the group session.

Roger will be facilitating this leadership series. If any questions arise between now and the start of the program, please don’t hesitate to reach out to either of us.

As you progress through the curriculum I will follow up with you during our Monday morning meeting to check your progress.

I’m excited that you are part of this program and at the opportunities it will provide to you as you develop and enhance your leadership skills.

Example #3

A brief email providing details of the training program. The students that received the email had already been notified that they would be participating.

Good Morning!

Next week, you will begin the Leadership Catalyst program with The Leadership Journey. Our first meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, January 12, from 2-3 in Argon B Conference Room. The purpose of my note today is to share some detail about what you can expect during our first meeting.

The program is scheduled to meet bi-weekly this year (January through December). Each meeting we will explore a leadership concept – e.g., motivating teams, building a high-performing work environment, holding team members accountable, and assertive communication, to name a few. This will be done using a combination of e-Learning (on your own) and group discussion. We will discuss the program further in our first meeting.

For Tuesday’s class, please watch the first module titled “First Things First: Building Key Leadership Skills.” Schedule 45 minutes, as it may take you extra time since it is the first module. Subsequent modules will only take 25-30 minutes.

Attached to this message you will find very detailed instructions about logging in and accessing the features of the e-Learning program.

I will be facilitating this program and participating right alongside you. I am very excited to have the opportunity to work with each of you and believe you will find The Leadership Journey to be an enriching experience on both a personal and professional level. If any questions arise between now and Tuesday, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me directly.

Best – Susan
